The stores are reimbursed by the manufacturer for the face value of the coupon plus a handling fee. Stores actually make additional profits by handling coupons. This is why you will see the store actually provide coupons in the aisle with the product. Store coupons are for redemption only at the issuing store (or stores that accept competitor's coupons such as Albertsons). Manufacturer's coupons may be redeemed at any retailer (except the large membership stores like Sam's Club and Costco who do not take coupons and are designed for small business owners). Q.
