This is a childhood Chatty that was sent to me for restoring.  When the doll arrived, she looked as you see her above.  She was not only missing all her face color, but had black smudges all over her body - these were marks a restorer before me could not remove.  And her hair was simply a tangled mess that I couldn't even get my fingers through.  She was, by far, the saddest Chatty I had ever seen, so I set her aside for a few days until I could devote the time to working on her that she deserved.  

This was what the sides and backs of both arms looked like - these black smudges were embedded in her limbs....

....and this is her arm after I cleaned it.  All the marks came off!  After I saw how this first arm turned out, I knew I could bring her back.

Isn't she adorable?  

I redressed her in the original red pinafore set she was wearing when 

first issued in 1960, complete with a satin ribbon around that gorgeous

 head of hair.  Once her hair was cleaned and styled, I found it was 

still very thick and shiny....I styled it back into her original bob which

 frames that adorable face.  I reapplied her cheek blush and

 bubblegum-pink lip color, and also the spot of blush between her

 eyebrows that so very few of these dolls still have.  When she was

 finished, even I was amazed at the transformation.  

She turned out to be a beautiful little doll.
